Trevor Sinclair, a former Manchester United winger, believes Chelsea will challenge for the Premier League championship next season.
Following the Premier League and UK government's permission of Todd Boehly and Clearlake's £4.25 billion ownership of the club, he believes Thomas Tuchel's Blues would spend heavily in the market this summer.
According to reports in England, the new owner has already put aside £200 million to get the team in condition for a title bid next season.
When asked if such a run would put Chelsea in contention for the championship, Sinclair told talkSPORT, "It might do, you have to look at the ins and outs." [Armando] Broja is back, Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are back, Ben Chilwell is gone for the season with a knee injury, and Reece James has lost a significant amount of time.
“They possibly could revisit Tammy Abraham with the season he’s had for Roma, and look at the Romelu Lukaku situation because he doesn’t seem like he’s settled too well.
“But with [Cesar] Azpilicueta, [Antonio] Rudiger and [Andreas] Christensen leaving the football club, there’s a lot of business to do.
“Thomas Tuchel will need to get his ducks in a row straight away, because the summer goes quickly.
“There’s not a lot of time to do business, but £200m plus the quality players coming back from loan, if they spend it wisely and recruit well, they could close that gap.”
