Prophet Godson Thompson, 32, has been remanded in custody by the Akwa Ibom State High Court for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl who was taken to him for intercessory prayers.
After hearing the evidence of the victim, an SS1 student at a Government Secondary School in Uyo, the trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang, ordered the prophet's remand. The prophet is a resident of Ikot Offiong Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
The woman said in court on Monday that while living with her elder sister in Uyo, her in-law drove her to a church on Information Drive in Uyo, and after he departed at 6 p.m., the Pastor took her to his house, where she was raped all night.
She said that the accused, a father of three children, offered her a pail so she could pee inside the house instead of going outside.
The girl further informed the Court that due to bleeding, she had to use her sanitary pads for two weeks after the occurrence on Friday, July 10, 2020.
The tenager recalled how on the fatal day, the prophet instructed her to join him someplace to pray for someone, which she did, only to wind up at his residence, where he brought a black liquid substance in a plastic bottle and consumed it before taking turns raping her.
She claimed to have seen ladies' underwear of various colors and photos of women inside the prophet's residence.
The woman said she was able to flee because the accused failed to lock the house door and went to a church, where she was rescued.
At the conclusion of the evidence of the victim, the trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang adjourned the matter to 1st August, 2022 for continuation of trial and ordered the accused be taken back to prison till the adjourned date.
