Onyeka Umeh, an eight-year-old kid, was saved from drowning by the Lagos State Fire Service in Ejigbo, Lagos, and nearly avoided death.
Before the fire department's prompt response, Umeh was in danger of drowning in the open water at the far end of Pastor Ojediran Street, behind the Oba's Palace.
The Ejigbo Fire Station received an emergency call at 3:20 pm, which prompted the agency's rescue team to quickly gather and extricate the youngster from the canal. The youngster was given to the Ejigbo Division of the Police after the rescue operation, and they were able to reunite him with his family.
According to sources, Umeh's friend saw him drowning and raised the alarm, alerting the fire service to the situation and saving his friend's life. The friend collects pet bottles from the neighborhood.
Parents and guardians are being urged by the Lagos State Fire Service to keep an eye on their kids and minimize their exposure to dangerous places.
