271 households in Yobe were affected by a flood that resulted in the loss of three lives.

According to Yobe State Emergency Management Agency's verified Facebook page, a heavy downpour in Labba Kuka community in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State has resulted in the displacement of 271 households and the confirmed death of three people. 

On Sunday, the agency reported that an assessment of the affected area was carried out by its Flood Response Team, the Councilor representing Mutai Ward, and community leaders to determine the extent of the damage caused.

SEMA reported that the flood incident affected 271 households, which translates to over 1,600 individuals, and they have been identified. Tragically, three people lost their lives, and nine others sustained injuries. 



The state humanitarian agency confirmed that the deceased had been buried, and the injured individuals had been referred to a nearby hospital in Bajoga, Gombe State for medical treatment.


SEMA stated that it would liaise with Bagoja hospital to ensure that the flood victims receive necessary treatment with the support of the government. 

The agency also promised to intensify resource mobilization efforts and provide immediate assistance to those affected. In addition, humanitarian actors operating in the affected communities would be mobilized to complement the government's efforts. 

The agency tasked the Gujba Local Government authority to prioritize the provision of water and basic primary health care services to help alleviate the suffering of the displaced individuals. 

SEMA assured that it would continue to engage with local government stakeholders to prevent and mitigate seasonal floods in accordance with early warning signs from NIMET and NEMA.
