The wife of a military commander and six other people were kidnapped by bandits on Tuesday when they broke into the Keke 'A' and Keke 'B' neighborhoods of the New Millennium City in Kaduna State's Chikun Local Government Area.
The hoodlums reportedly broke into the regions about 11:00 night and operated there for nearly an hour before facing resistance from security personnel.
The robbers were on a targeted mission to a certain residence in the vicinity, according to a person who lives in the neighborhood who confided in one of our correspondents.
The source claims that the bandits abducted three people from the Keke 'A' area, and they were successful in breaking into the home of a military officer.
She continued by saying that the bandits also abducted a neighbor of the military officer who was not home at the time of the incident.
The informant claimed that other locals, including neighborhood shopkeepers and tea dealers known as "Mai shayi" in Hausa, managed to flee as soon as they heard the bandits' bullets.
It was a night of horror, the insider claimed. At around 11:00 night, the thieves arrived. I believe a home at Keke "A" was their primary aim. A military officer owns the property, however at the time of the attack, the officer was not there. As a result, the kidnappers entered the home and took his wife.
“They also kidnapped another man who is the immediate neighbour of the military officer.
“In fact, the neighbour was picked alongside his eight-year-old daughter but they eventually dropped the daughter when her mother was shouting.
"I believe they began shooting randomly at that time in order to scare off anyone who might have considered helping them.
"While all of that was going on, a different man who had just started driving home ran into the kidnappers. He was the third individual who was removed.
As of this morning, we noticed a lot of shoes on the ground and were terrified that they must be the shoes of the kidnapped individuals. However, one of the individuals who managed to flee the attack informed us that the shoes belong to those who fled.
A resident of Keke "B" described his experience by saying that after coming home from an expedition and starting to take a bath, he heard gunshots.
He said a man and his wife, and two house girls were taken away in the area by the bandits.
“I was so terrified. I just got out of the bathroom abruptly and switched off all the lights inside my house. The gunshots were so close. It was like the bandits were inside my compound. I later discovered that a man and his wife, as well as their two house girls, were kidnapped,” he said.
The state Police Command had yet to confirm the attack as of the time of filing this report.
When contacted, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige, could not be reached as a call put to his telephone was not picked and there was no response to a text message to his telephone either
