The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Roni Local Government Area, Saleh Idris, a 56-year-old man, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on charges of allegedly raping his housegirl. The spokesman of the Jigawa State Command of the NSCDC, CSC Adamu Shehu, confirmed the arrest in a statement to BEVIBESHUB.
According to the statement, the suspect was apprehended on Wednesday following a complaint filed by the victim's brother. The complaint alleged that the suspect had raped and impregnated his 14-year-old sister, who worked as a house-help in the suspect's residence.
As per the victim's brother, "the case was reported at NSCDC Roni LGA Division after a failed agreement reached at the Hisba office on taking responsibility. Instead, he was pressuring the family to abort the pregnancy.
The victim's first encounter with the suspect was when he offered her a drink while his wife was not at home, causing her to lose consciousness, and he sexually assaulted her. After she regained consciousness, he threatened her not to tell anyone or risk losing her monthly allowances, leading to a pattern of repeated abuse, which she kept secret until the pregnancy became apparent."
CSC Adamu mentioned that during interrogation, the suspect denied the allegations, and the case has been taken to court. This case is in violation of section 3 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act of Jigawa State and is subject to punishment under the same Act.
