On Saturday evening, gunmen kidnapped Rev. Fr. Christopher Onotu, a Catholic priest, from a church in Obangede, Okehi Local Government Area, Kogi State.
The shooters were said to have stormed the Church's vicarage around 9 p.m. on that fatal day, according to Akelicious. They smashed the church window, broke into the priest's room, and grabbed him.
The event was uncovered by church members on Sunday when they arrived for morning mass and realized that the priest was not there to officiate.
According to a church member, the priest's automobile was not visible on the church grounds, giving the appearance that the hoodlums had taken it with them.
"They took his two phones but kept his sim cards," a church member who requested anonymity said.
The Kogi State Police Command verified the event, saying they are on the lookout for the kidnappers of a Catholic priest who was abducted in the state's Obangede LGA.
SP Williams Ayah, the command's Police Public Relations Officer, revealed that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, has dispatched an intelligence team with the goal of retrieving the Catholic priest unharmed.
People should be calm, he said, because the police are working with other sister security authorities, as well as stakeholders, to solve the mystery surrounding the abducted priest.
