The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) has gone on strike indefinitely, asking that its new conditions of service be fully implemented.
PASAN wrote to the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, in May 2020, pleading with them to intervene in a growing crisis caused by an alleged scheme to halt the implementation of the amended condition of service for members.
However, a member of PASAN EXCO who spoke to DAILY POST on the condition of anonymity claimed lawmakers had yet to put the service requirement into effect.
Members of the organization, he claimed, have agreed to halt National Assembly activity until their demands are satisfied.
"The two chapters, the National Assembly Commission and the National Assembly Chapter, have unanimously agreed that we would embark on an indefinite strike because we signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, but the management has refused to follow the agreement," he stated.
"The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on March 21, 2020, but nothing has been done since then.
"An act on consequential adjustments to minimum pay was passed, and the Federal Government disbursed funds for it, but the National Assembly Service is still owing the arrears of that minimum salary."
The facility was under lock and key when BEVIBESHUB visited the National Assembly Commission office in Utako, as officials were spotted roaming around the premises.
