Iyabo Ojo, a Nollywood actress, has released a statement in response to the conviction of Olanrewaju Omiyinka, also known as Baba Ijesa.

According to The BEVIBESHUB, the actor was charged with six counts of child defilement at his arraignment before the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court in Lagos. These charges included the indecent treatment of children, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault by penetration.

The prosecution failed to establish the defendant's guilt of all the allegations against him beyond a reasonable doubt, according to Justice Taiwo Oluwatoyin, who gave the ruling on Thursday.

However, the defendant was convicted on four of the six charges brought against him and received a 16-year prison term.

He received three years in prison for count 2, five years for count 3, three years for count 4, and five years for count 5. Five years' worth of prison time will be served concurrently.

One of the most prominent advocates for Baba Ijesa's victim and her foster mother, Nollywood actor and comedian Princess, was Ojo, a sexual assault survivor herself.

The Real Housewives of Lagos reality TV actress commented on the verdict on her Instagram page on Thursday, calling it a triumph for abuse victims.

She also admonished those going through abuse to “speak up”, and never remain silent.

“To all the girl child and boy child being abused, never be AFRAID to speak up and speak out. This victory is for you,” she wrote in the post.
