During Saturday's presidential and national assembly elections, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) announced on Friday that it will be using 200 armed operatives to combat vote-buying in the states of Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina.
Farouk Dogondaji, the EFCC's Kano Zonal Commander, disclosed this in an interview with NAN in Kano.
According to Dogondaji, the deployment was a part of the EFCC's commitment to making sure that the zone holds legitimate and transparent elections in 2023.
"We have sent fifty people to watch over the election process in Kano State, fifty in Jigawa State, and fifty in Katsina State to prevent vote buying throughout the electoral process," he said.
The remaining [fifty] officers were sent to the airports in Kano (Malam Aminu Kano International) and Katsina (Umaru Musa Yar'Adua Airport).
According to Dogondaji, the commission has adequate employees on call and is prepared for any threat, even during and after the election.
The 36 States of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, will hold their general elections for 2023 today, on Saturday.
