The tanker explosion in Jos North LGA left 13 people dead and ten others with various degrees of injuries, according to the Plateau State Police Command.
The Command added that the incident also resulted in the destruction of 28 stores, eight cars, six tricycles, and two motorcycles.
According to BEVIBESHUB, an explosion was caused on Wednesday by a tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) that experienced brake failure in the Bauchi road area of Jos North LGA.
In Jos, the state capital, on Friday, the Police confirmed the numbers to journalists through its public relations officer, Alfred Alabo.
He claims that on April 27, 2023, at around 13:30 p.m., a deadly truck accident involved a tanker truck carrying petroleum products that lost control of its brakes and caught fire.
"As a result, twenty-eight shops, eight cars, six tricycles, and two motorcycles were set on fire."
"Thirteen unidentified persons were burned beyond recognition, which is an increase from what was reported in our earlier release," he continued.
"The bodies were interred by JNI in accordance with Islamic customs, and 10 injured people were transferred to separate hospitals for treatment.
Further findings further showed that a large irate mob attacked the FRSC crew and set their operational car with the registration number AO1 783 RS on fire, causing one of the staff to incur forehead injuries.
Alabo also reported that one suspect had been detained in relation to the mob assault.
The police spokesman added that the DC DOPS, Area Commanders DPOs, and heads of Tactical Teams have been activated by the police commissioner, Bartholomew Onyeka, to take the required steps to maintain the peace and normalcy that have been restored to the area.
