The Benue State Police Command has officially verified the apprehension of four individuals suspected of involvement in the bank heist that occurred in the Otukpo local council of the state on Friday. The incident resulted in the tragic loss of more than ten lives, including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) SP John Adikwu, three police officers, bank staff, and innocent customers.
In a statement released on Saturday night, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, confirmed that the robbers were captured by a Joint Security Force team, which included personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Armed Forces, among others. The operation took place along the Otukpo-Taraku road in Benue State on Saturday afternoon.
Although a police source shared images of the arrested suspects on social media and stated that they were among the individuals responsible for the bank robberies and the attack on a police station in Otukpo, Anene urged the public to await the results of the police investigation before making any comprehensive statements on the matter.
Before the apprehension of the four new suspects, the police had previously reported the killing of two of the robbers during an encounter with the security task force along the Otukpo-Taraku road.
