In a civil service state like Osun, civil servants can affect the outcome of an election, according to Kenneth Olutayo Tinubu, a former leader of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Osun state chapter.
Adegboyega Oyetola, the outgoing governor of Osun, was criticized by Tinubu for his treatment of employees. Tinubu claimed that Oyetola's lack of support for the state's government servants was the reason he lost the governor's race on July 16, 2022.
On Monday in Osogbo, Tinubu announced this while participating in a special Workers' Day edition of a radio current affairs show.
He claimed that the previous administration's failure was due to their nonchalant behavior.
The workers proved to them that they are willing to support any government that is willing to support them, despite their belief that they have nothing to contribute.
"Eighty percent of employees voted against the previous administration."
Additionally, Tinubu claimed that the promises made by the current governor of Osun, Ademola Adeleke, to the civil servants were the key factor in his victory.
"We had a meeting with him when he wanted to enter, and he made promises to us. The public supported him because of this.
In a civil service state, such as Osun, "the workers can influence the outcome of an election," he continued.
